Letter from Wiley

Dear Friend of the Twin Falls School District Foundation,

The Twin Falls School District Education Foundation has been serving the needs of the schools and students since 1991. Over these years the Foundation has played an important role in numerous projects and programs within the Twin Falls School District. As we move forward in an ever changing world, the Foundation hopes to continue this tradition, and remains focused on its mission “to enhance the quality of education within the Twin Falls School District.”

The Foundation is embarking on a new “Technology in the Classroom” campaign to provide even more support to our principals, teachers and students. With less state support, and our student population growing in needs and diversity, it is critical that we all join together to contribute to ensure that our teachers have projectors, interactive whiteboards and other high tech equipment to enhance the education of the students in the Twin Falls School District.

Every donation counts. Please find the information necessary to contribute right here on the Foundation’s website. The Twin Falls Education Foundation is happy to accept single contributions as well as multi- year pledges. Our District and the Foundation will be recognizing donors in planned publicity venues. We also recognize that some donors may wish to remain anonymous, and we will honor those requests as well.

Please do not hesitate to contact me or our Foundation Executive Director, Linda Watkins, if you have any question about becoming a “Partner in Education.” I highly recommend that you become involved in this wonderful and meaningful way.

Your contribution will enrich the academic and personal experience of all who attend school in Twin Falls School District. On behalf of the entire board, please accept my sincerest thanks and gratitude for your interest and support.

Sincerely,

Dr. Wiley Dobbs,
Superintendent of Schools

The TFSD Education Foundation recently donated over to $115,000

The TFSD Education Foundation recently donated over to $115,000 to the TFSD to purchase projectors in classrooms. This was made possible thanks to generous donations from numerous individuals, several local Foundations, Glanbia Foods, Inc. and from the proceeds from the Cow P.I.E. (Partner In Education) Challenge this past fall. We are almost 75% of the way to completing Phase 1 of our technology campaign to provide a “Projector In Every Classroom.” Special thanks go out to all who have donated to this valuable project.

Read Like an Eagle

The Foundation recently partnered with CSI and several area businesses to support the “Read Like An Eagle” program.  This was a reading incentive program where elementary students set individual reading goals and received t-shirts and other prizes for meeting their goals.  Those students who received their t-shirts are able to attend any sporting event during the 2010-2011 athletic year free of charge when accompanied by an adult.  There was a wonderful celebration for those students at several CSI basketball games in January—-thanks CSI and CSI athletes for supporting reading in the Twin Falls School District!

Newcomer Center

The Newcomer Center (NCC) opened in September 2009 serving only secondary students at that time.  Due to an Idaho Refugee School Impact Grant in partnership with the College of Southern Idaho Refugee Center, the program has expanded to also serve K-5th grade.  The NCC serves as both an intake and welcome center to assist refugee students and families through their transition into American culture, the Twin Falls School District and community.  The Newcomer Center serves as a transitional time period where students can adjust to westernized school and cultural norms.  The goal is to prepare students to transition to mainstream classrooms with the ability to participate socially and behaviorally, and communicate effectively while meeting academic standards.  Thanks to the support from community members, the Foundation has donated to this program since its inception.

If you would like to contribute to this worthwhile program, please contact the Foundation, and we will make sure it happens!

Annual Cow P.I.E. Challenge every fall

Look for the annual Cow P.I.E. Challenge every fall!  This event takes place before the Canyon Ridge High School/Twin Falls High School varsity football game.  There will be food, fun, and of course Cows!  An area will be sectioned off into squares that can be purchased for $25/square or 5/$100.  If the Cow does his/her business in your square, you will win $2011.  Tickets may be purchased from a board member, the Foundation office, or at designated locations around town.

Letter from the Chamber

As a business organization, the Twin Falls Area Chamber of Commerce advocates activities, events, and projects to enhance our community’s economic vitality and quality of life.  Investment in the educational infrastructure of our community’s schools is critical to the continued prosperity of the Twin Falls area.

Quality schools are a key factor for businesses and individuals who are considering locating in our region.  It’s typically one of the first questions we’re asked about the community.  The Chamber is proud to partner with the Twin Falls School District Education Foundation in supporting quality education for today’s residents and tomorrow’s workforce.
